AKA Postpharyngitis Venous Thrombosis
pharyngitis + neck vein thrombosis + septic pulm emboli
Enlargement, thrombosis, and mural enhancement of the affected veins
venous thrombophlebitis of the tonsilar and peritonsillar veins. Spreads to IJ.
Bezold abscess
results from complication of otomastoiditis leading to necrosis of mastoid tip and spread of infection into the surrounding soft tissue.
IJ thrombosis is a complication
Ranula

ddx is dermoid/epidermoid but these tend to be more central
dermoid/epidermoid
dermoid > or 2 germ layers. epidermoid only ectoderm.
fluid attentuation lesion in floor of mouth.
sack of marbles appearance /fat => dermoid
thyroglossal duct cyst
cystic lesion usually midline of neck.
1st branchial cleft cyst
2nd branchial cleft cyst
- near parotid or external ear canal
2. near angle of mandible, submandibular gland, infront of SCM muscle
Sinonasal ossifying fibroma
well circumscribed, expansile
soft tissue density center with calcified rim. fibrous center may enhance
T1 dark calc portion, intermediate fibrous portion
T2 dark calc portion, bright fibrous portion
C+ heterogenous enhancement of fibrous portion
