What are the types of scalene muscles?
Anterior, middle & posterior
Origin of 3 scalene muscles
Anterior = anterior tubercle of transverse processes
Middle = posterior tubercle of transverse process
Posterior: posterior tubercle of transverse process
Insertion of 3 scalene muscles
Anterior & middle = 1st rib (wraps around neck & attaches to 1st rib)
Posterior = 2nd rib
What are the scalene muscles innervated by?
C4-C5 (VPRs)
Function of scalene muscles
flexion, lateral flexion, lateral rotation of neck, & accessory muscles of respiration
What runs through the root of the neck?
Brachiocephalic vein
Brachial plexus
Subclavian artery
What are the branches of the subclavian artery? What is within each part?
1st part:
- Vertebral artery
- Internal thoracic artery
- Thyrocervical trunk
2nd part:
- Costocervical trunk

- Dorsal scapular artery
