CLOUD COLLAPSE:
Rotational velocity is inversely proportional to radius.

DISK:

The formation of terrestrial (hot/warm) planets is near the sun because?

A

The presence of metals and silicates are near the sun.
This makes the terrestrial planets the planets with metal and silicates.

Q

DISK:

Jovian planets were formed far from the sun because?

A

The temperature is cooler enough for the gases to condense,
forming these massive, but low-density planets.

Q

DISK:

JOVIAN- LOW DENSITY PLANETS
TERRESTRIAL- HIGH DENSITY PLANETS

A

TRUE

17
Q

DISK:
Why are terrestrial planets small

A

Because there are limited resources of metal and silicates present near the sun.

18
Q

DISK:
Ices and gases CANNOT condense NEAR THE SUN.

A

TRUE

19
Q

DISK:
The metals and silicates in the outer part of the disk CONDENSE.

A

TRUE

20
Q

GROWTH:
Dust and grains surrounding the sun eventually formed clumps

A

TRUE

21
Q

GROWTH
The clumps then accreted forming?

A

PLANETESIMALS

22
Q

GROWTH:

What are planetesimals?

A

Small celestial bodies that once COLLIDE together and it tend to FUSE to form the planets of the solar system.

23
Q

Who are the proponents of the Nebular Theory?

A
  1. Immanuel Kant
  2. Emmanuel Swedenbord
  3. Pierre-Simon Laplace
24
Q

What are the drawbacks of the Nebular Theory? (3)

A
  1. It assumes that dust particles will be
attached to each other forming a planet, when Saturn cannot do because this planet repels the particles.
  2. It does not follow the law of angular momentum.
  3. This theory excluded Venus and Uranus. These planets spin clockwise, unlike what the NT stated that the disk rotates counterclockwisely.
