What do we try to inhibit or facilitate?
- inhibit abnormal movement
- facilitate normal/typical movement
What level do we challenge patients using NDT?
Work at highest level of quality of movement, but low enough to allow the movement
-Want SYMMETRY, QUALITY, and NORMAL MOVEMENT
What is tone affected by?
- fear
- effort
- pain
- concentration
How does a person who has had a stroke present?
- abnormal tone
- posterior pelvic tilt
- weight shifted to unaffected side
- shortening of muscles on affected side
- Neck laterally flexed (sidebending) to affected side
- Rotation away from affected side
What is handling?
What you do to initiate, guide and control movemnt
What does cervical extension promote?
- Full body extension
- Cervical flexion inhibits trunk extension
What does internal rotation of the arm inhibit?
extension
What does external rotation of the arm inhibit?
