Assessment findings: Scabies
pruritic papular rash
Burrows into skin (fine grayish red lines that may be difficult to see)
Applying permethrin lotion for scabies
-massaged thoroughly and gently into ALL skin surfaces from head to soles of feet
-avoid contact in eyes
-do not apply until 30 minutes after bathing
-apply to only cool, dry skin
-keep lotion on for 8-14 hours –> then give child bath
-child should be clothed during the 8-14 hours
impetigo- cause, weather, assessment findings
-contagious bacterial infection of skin caused by group A streptococcus and Staph aureus
-most common in hot, humid weather
-may begin in area of broken skin
-lesions usually around mouth and nose. may be present in hands and extremities
lindane shampoo usage- contraindications
-prescribed to tx lice
-contraindicated in children younger than 2 yo- have more permeable skin –> high systemic absorption –> CNS toxicity
-used with caution in children btw 2 and 10 yo
-other household members can use to tx lice at same time
-not recommended for breastfeeding mothers b/c secreted in breastmilk
-
Topical corticosteroid- contact dermititis- usage
-apply THIN layer and rubbed into Affected Area
-Clean affected area before applying
pediculosis captitis
infestation of hair and scalp w lice
attached firmly to hair shaft near the scalp
pediatric considerations in care of burn victim
-scarring more severe in child than adult
-delay in growth may occur
-immature immune system –> increased risk of infection
-higher proportion of body fluid to body mass –> increases risk of CV problems
-burns involving more than 10% of total body surface area –> require fluid resuscitation
-at increased risk for protein and caloric deficiencies b/c have smaller muscle mass and less body fat than adults
