Navigation Flashcards
What does the IRS ON battery (BAT) light indicate?
IRS operating on backup electrical power (APU hot battery bus)
When is full alignment of the IRS required?
When time from last full alignment to next expected arrival time exceeds 18 hours
What CDU pages are available during alternate navigation?
-Alt Nav LEGS
-Alt Nav PROG
-Alt Nav RADIO
Can clear air turbulence be sensed by wx radar?
No, turbulence can only be sensed when there is sufficient precipitation
How many FMCs are provided?
Two, L&R
What factor determines ECON speed?
Cost Index
What VNAV pitch mode would you expect at arrow 3 and 4 with a “Climb Via” clearance?
-#3 VNAV SPD
-#4 VNAV PTH
If you are flying an approach with the FMC in “on approach” logic and the airplane rises more than 150 feet above the path, the FMA pitch mode will change from VNAV PTH to what pitch mode display?
VNAV SPD
On a -400 Legacy FMC, when does approach phase of the FMS start, also known as “on approach logic”
-When initial fix of an approach sequences
-When runway is active waypoint and within 25NM
NG FMC “on approach” logic occurs when?
-when any of the below occurs:
-Descent phase, flaps out of up
-First waypoint sequenced of active nav database
-Less than 12NM from destination airport direct to or intercept course-to active waypoint and a manually entered end of descent altitude constraint is lower than the destination airport plus 500’
-The runway or missed approach point is active waypoint and the airplane is within 25nm of the runway
Are there any VMCG issues when applying additional thrust manually during an assumed temperature thrust takeoff?
No, because assumed temp thrust setting is not considered a limitation and VMCG is calculated from the full engine rated thrust
What could happen if you advance the thrust levers further then TO 1 or TO 2 fixed derate following an engine failure?
Loss of directional control
When does the CDU message INSUFFICIENT FUEL display?
Estimated fuel at destination is less than fuel reserve (FMC RSV) entered on the PERF INIT page
Can ATC monitor airplane position on the ground when the transponder is in STBY?
No
Are LNAV and VNAV available in alternate navigation?
No
What happens when an active database expires in flight?
The database is used until the active database is changed after landing
How is the reference thrust changed from TO (D-TO, TO 1, or TO 2) to CON on upper EICAS following an engine failure in flight?
1-Automatically when airspeed > VREF+98
2-Pushing THR switch on MCP
3-Accessing THRUST LIM page in CDU and manually selecting CON
What databases are contained in the FMC?
1-Aero Engine (AEDB-Performance)
2-Navigation
3-Operational Program Config (OPC)
4-MAGVAR Tables
When will the FMC fail to sequence the active waypoint?
More than 21nm from the active route and not on an offset route
-8, what modes of operation are available for the multiscan wx radar?
Manual - Traditional radar with full control over tilt and gain
Automatic-Collects data from multiple scans and merges to create total weather picture
-8 Does multiscan wx radar proide trubulence detection capability?
Yes - magenta for moderate to severe when there is sufficient precip, CAT can’t be sensed
When armed for takeoff when does VNAV activate?
400’
If the FMC cruise altitude is FL 250 and clearance alt FL 190 set in MCP, what pitch mode will FMA display when FL 190 captured?
VNAV ALT
What VNAV FMA would display on PFD during dep waypoint altitude constraints
VNAV PTH
What is difference between RNP and ACTUAL and where is it displayed?
-RNP: Required navigation performance
-ACTUAL: Actual nav performance
-Displayed FMC POS REF page
What is a conditional waypoint?
Waypoint based on a time or altitude requirement, and not on a land reference.
Indicated when eventoccurs, and not geographically fixed position, i.e… when reaching 500’…
