What is communication?
a two way process between a sender and receiver
3 natures of communication
- Communication is a process.
- Occurs between 2 or more people.
- Expressed through written or spoken words, actions (nonverbal), or both spoken words and nonverbal actions at the same time.
The person who initiates the conversation and creates a message .
Sender
The recipient of the information; someone who decodes the message.
Receiver
The information created by the sender.
Message
The carrier of the messages. The carrier of the messages travels between the sender and the receiver. (face to face, written communication, or through electronic devices, verbal, nonverbal)
Channel/Medium
The reactions, responses, or information provided by the receiver.
Feedback
The sender’s process of converting the message into words, actions, or other forms that the speaker understands.
Encoding
The process where the receiver interprets the information into meaningful messages.
Decoding
The environment where communication takes place.
Context
Called interference, is anything that blocks the communication process.
Barrier/Noise
First process of communication
The speaker generates an idea
Second process of communication
The speaker encodes an idea or converts the idea into words or actions
Third process of communication
The speaker transmits or sends out a message
Fourth process of communication
The receiver gets the message
