- Democratic - power divided between President or Chancellor and Reichstag BUT president had significant power
- FRG:
- Democracy BUT Basic law designed to stop a democracy being undermined and removed opposition (article 21)
- Presidents powers limited.
- Both had coalition governments BUT made up of less parties in FRG as smaller extremist parties were banned.

- FRG - Basic Law - ensured that democracy could not be undermined - as a result more measures put in place to removed opposition seen to undermine democracy. –> Resulted to greater measures to make sure another dictatorship didn’t emerge
