To find what triggered the Tottenham riots in 2011, specifically young people.

N - Sample
36 young people aged around 18. Included both genders, a range of ethnicities, and those still in education.
N - Procedure
Five weeks after the riots, the sample were interviewed on what happened. They had informed consent.
N - What were the four types of participants involved?
Watchers - bystanders and curious.
Rioters - protestors, retaliators, and thrill-seekers.
Looters - opportunists and sellers.
Non-involved - stay aways and wannabes.
N - What were the situational nudge or tug factors?
Group processes, peer pressure, information, presence of an authority figure.
N - What were the dispositional nudge or tug factors?
Previous criminal activity, attitudes towards authority, prospects.
N - What were the other nudge or tug factors?
Family attitudes, community, belonging, poverty and materialism.
N - Conclusion
Anti-social behaviour is mainly determined by dispositional factors and collective behaviour.
N - Criticisms
Small sample, researchers struggled to find a sample so resulted to those imprisoned, people may have given socially desirable responses, answers relied on memory, researchers adapted findings to fit within their categories.
