Features of inflammatory conditions of the nasopharynx
A
- cause: viral, bacterial
- complications: Strep pyogenes pharyngitis may lead to ARF, AGN

Features of juvenile angiofibroma
A
- rare tumour in male adolescents
- benign but may grow quickly during puberty
- frequently ulcerate & present with bleeding (highly vascular)

Risk factors of nasopharyngeal carcinoma
A
- EBV infection at a young age
- Salt-preserved food
- Family history

Histological types of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (3)
A
- Keratinising squamous cell carcinoma (Type I)
- Non-keratinising carcinoma - differentiated (Type II)
- Non-keratinising carcinoma - undifferentiated (Type III) (>95% of NPC)

Clinical presentations of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (4)
A
- Hearing loss & tinnitus - obstruction to Eustachian tube, secretory otitis media
- Diplopia - invasion of CN VI
- Nasal obstruction, epistaxis, serous nasal discharge
- Metastases in cervical lymph nodes
