Ethmoid Bone
Middle part: Crita galli, cribriform plate, perpendicular plate
Labryinths: Superior and Middle concha, infundibulum
Medial Wall
Septal Cartilage(examined); Perpendicular plate of ethmoid bone; vomer
Lateral wall
Nose cartilage, nasal and frontal bone, lacrimal
Ethmoid bone (superior and Middle concha)
Inferior concha
perpendicular palatine and maxilla
Paranasal sinuses
Frontal sinuses: Mid/inf conchae semilunar
Maxillary sinuses: Mid/inf conchae
Ethmoidal cells: Between sup and middle, posterior ethmoidal cells. Mid/Inf, anterior and middle cells
Sphenoidal: Opens above superior concha, Spheno-ethmoidal recess
Nasal cavity Blood supply
Posterior: Sphenopalatine artery and its branches
Anterior: Anastomosis of: Anterior and posterior ethmoidal arteries (from IC), nasal artery from superior labial, terminal end of greater palatine artery.
This area is Little’s Area
Venous drainage and lymphatics
Innervation
Lymphatics: Drain into submandibular
Venous: Special is nasal vein to foramen cecum
Innervation: Olfactory, Ant ethmoidal+infraorbital, nasopalatine nerves
Facial nerve research
Porion(sup tragus)
Supraorbital notch
Inferior orbital rim
Any lesion in traingle of SOML. IOML and porion, refer to specialist
Between porion line and zygomatic sutural line, temporal branches of the facial nerve
Soft tissue branches are not as good a landmarks as bony
