What causes narcolepsy?
A
the patients brain cant regulate a normal sleep-wake cycle, often its familial.
Associated with HLA-DRB11501 and HLA-DQB10602 genes

What are the symptoms of narcolepsy?
A
Cataplexy - Sudden transient muscle weakness with awareness. E.g. fall or mouth hangs open
Excessive Daytime Somnolence (EDS)
Hypnagogic Hallucinations - Between wake & sleep
Sleep Paralysis
Sudden irresistable sleep Attacks

How is Narcolepsy Treated?
A
Modafinil - Wakefulness Promoter
Clomipramine - An anti-depressant for cataplexy
Sodium Oxybate - For cataplexy & Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS)
