  • Block 1 - BUNO.
  • Block 2 - T/M/S.
  • Block 3 - Reporting Custodian.
  • Block 4 - OXY. Enter total gaseous or liquid oxygen on board. N/A.
  • Block 5 - FUEL. Enter grade and quantity of fuel.
  • Block 6 - OIL. Enter grade and quantity in each engine.
  • Block 7 - DATE. Enter date of PIC acceptance.
  • Block 8 - ORDNANCE/SPECIAL EQUIPMENT/LIMITATIONS/RMKS. Informs PIC of ordnance and special equipment loaded and any uncorrected discrepancies or unique characteristics of the aircraft. Mx Ctrl must verify with QA that certification has been completed prior to signing SFF.
  • Block 9 - SIGNATURE OF PC. Plane captain who inspected the aircraft.
  • Block 10 - SIGNATURE OF SFF. Signature of person certifying aircraft is safe for flight. If aircraft is away from home, PIC must sign Block 10.
  • Block 11 - SIGNATURE OF PIC. Indicates PIC has reviewed discrepancy reports of previous 10 flights, insured proper W&B and accepts aircraft for flight.

Hot seats - off-going PIC signs Block 10, on-going PIC signs Block 11.

Daily Inspection

A
  • Inspects for defects to a greater depth than the turnaround inspection.
  • Valid for 72 hours from date and time of inspection provided no flight occurs during this period and no maintenance other than servicing is performed.
  • Aircraft may be flown for 24 hours without another daily. The 24 hours cannot exceed the 72 hour expiration unless it occurs during a mission.
  • Turnaround inspections do not affect the 72 hour validity of a daily inspection.
  • CO may authorize PIC to conduct pre-flight in place of a daily inspection while operating away from home without qualified MX personnel for periods not to exceed 72 hours. It can expire during return flight to home base.

Turnaround Inspection

A
  • Conducted between flights to ensure integrity of aircraft for flight, verify service/consumption levels and to detect degradation that may have occurred during previous flight.
  • Valid for 24 hours from date and time of inspection provided no flight occurs during this period and no maintenance other than servicing is performed.
  • Accomplishment of a daily does not satisfy turnaround inspection requirements.
  • Turnaround not required between repetitive flight evolutions (i.e. hot seats, hot refueling, etc.)
  • CO may authorize PIC to conduct pre-flight in place of turnaround inspection and sign A-Sheet Block 10, SFF.
  • Once WOffW, turnaround inspection is considered to be expired.

Definition and timeline of phase inspections

A
  • Divides major inspection and maintenance requirements into ordered segments (A, B, C, D) performed sequentially at specified flight-hour or calendar intervals.
  • Completion of all required phase inspections in sequence completes the phase inspection cycle, which then starts over.
  • Repetitive cycle for the service life of the aircraft.
  • 200 hours +/- 10%

A

Mission Essential Subsystem Matrix

  • Tells you if the aircraft is FMC, PMC, or NMC based on degraded system
  • Uses EOC (Equipment Operational Capability) codes - a 3-letter alphanumeric code that tells you the degree of mission degradation

EOC ex:

  • K: Down for overwater or shipboard ops (blade fold, tail lockpin)
  • L: Down for IMC
  • Z: NMC

Special Inspection

A
  • Scheduled inspection with prescribed interval other than a daily, turnaround, or phase.
  • Intervals based on elapsed calendar time, flight hours, operating hours or number or cycles/events.
  • Ex: 7, 28 day; 50, 100 hour; 10, 100 arrestments; 5000 rounds fired.
  • Any special that can be completed during a phase will be so that the aircraft will be down only once during an extended period of time.
