Name The Primary Regions Of The Brain In Adults Flashcards
What are the primary regions of the brain?
- cerebrum - Diencephalon - Brain Stem - Cerebellum
Describe the cerebrum?
The cerebrum is divided in to two cerebral hemispheres down the midline. It makes up 83% of the brain mass.
How are the two hemispheres connected?
The hemispheres connected by corpus callous is a deep bridge of nerve fibres.
What is the cerebrum surface covered with?
It is covered by Gyri, sulcus and fissure.
What is a gyri?
These are the ridges seen on the cerebrum.
What is the sulcus?
These are the shallow folds which surround each gyri.
What is fissure?
Fissures are dapper grooves within the cerebrum, the most obvious being the divide between hemisphere.
How is each hemisphere divided?
Several soliciting divide each hemisphere into Frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital lobes and insula which is a brain lobe deep within the lateral sulcus.
What are the three regions of each hemisphere?
These regions are cerebral cortex, Waite matter and basically nuclei.
What is the cerebral cortex?
The cerebral cortex is superficial grey matter.
Where is white matter located?
The white matter is more internal than the grey matter.
What are basal nuclei?
Basal Nuclei are islands of grey matter located deep inside the white matter.

What is the Function of the cerebrum?
The cerebrum is in control of the sensory and motor control, memory, reasoning and also coordinates intelligence and personality.
