Describe The Locations Of The Ventricles Of The Brain. Flashcards
What are the ventricles?
The ventricles are interconnected cavities within the brain.
Where are they located?
They are located within the cerebral hemispheres and the brain stem of the brain.
What do the ventricles contain?
The ventricles contain CSF (cerebrospinal fluid).
How do the ventricles lye within the brain?
They are continuous with the spinal cord’s central canal.
What are the walls off the ventricles lined with?
The ventricle walls are lined with ependymal cells which are neuroglia of the central nervous system that cover specialised brain parts and form inner linings enclosing spaces inside the brain and spinal cord.
Where are the two largest ventricles located?
The two large ventricles are located in the frontal, temporal and occipital lobes.
Were is the third ventricle located?
This is located under the corpus callousness and is surrounded by the diencephalon in the midline.
Where is the fourth ventricle located?
It is located within the brainstem.
The ventricles connected to each other?
The two lateral ventricles are connected to the third ventricle.
How are the lateral ventricles connected to the third ventricle?
These ventricles are attached via a channel called the intraventricullar foramen.
How is the fourth ventricle connected?
The fourth ventricle is connected to the third ventricle via the cerebral aqueduct.
