What is najasat?
Anything that the Shari’ah deems impure.
Impure animals are those you cannot eat.
List the animals that are impure.
1) Predators/Carnivores (meat-eaters) e.g Pigs, Dogs
- Exception is a cat; cats are pure.
2) Birds that hunt (birds of prey)
3) Donkeys
- Exception is a zebra even though it is a type of donkey
4) Insects (Things that have no bloodstream)
- Exception is locusts
Cats and camels are things that people use/have around - they are pure.
Do you need to redo your wuthu is najasat goes on you?
No, you need to only wash off the najasat.
Are all things that come out of the two private parts impure?
No.
Urine and stool or anything that comes out of the two private parts is impure except:
1) Mani (sperm)
2) Women’s discharge (after the climax)
- Preseminal fluid is impure.
Al-Mayta is impure with exceptions.
What is Al-Mayta and what are the exceptions.
Al-Mayta - Any animal that is dead without Islamic slaughter (e.g roadkill)
Exceptions:
- Dead human
- Dead insects
- Fish (Anything from the sea)
If one performs salah with blood or the likes (e.g puss) on their clothes, is their salah valid?
No, blood and that which comes from it is impure.
Any liquid intoxicant is impure.
Give an example
Alcohol, liquid drugs.
Are hair and bones impure?
The hair and bones of dead animals are impure except for the hair of humans.
Before one offers their salah, what must be done in terms of najasat?
Their clothes, skin and place of prayer must be free from najasat.
Impurities can become pure.
1) Skin of dead animals.
2) Wine
Explain how.
1) Skin of head animals:
- Tanning (removing hair and washing skin with chemicals)
- Then using it to make e.g jackets
[There is a difference of opinion on this issue]
Exception: Skin of Dogs and pigs.
2) Wine:
- If wine is left to become vinegar naturally (for using chemicals or artificially) (and done by non-Muslims, it is not permissible for Muslims to make wine and turn it into vinegar)
