NAFLD Flashcards
Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT)
Enzyme that is useful in diagnosis and management of certain liver diseases (NASH and cirrhosis).
High levels of ALT = risk of disease.
Asparate Amino Transferase (AST)
Enzyme found in the liver. Helps measure AST levels with high levels being linked to hepatitis, liver necrosis, cirrhosis, and liver metastasis.
Liver Fibrosis, FIB-4 Index Panel
Panel to assess if patient is at higher risk for advanced liver fibrosis.
Includes:
ALT
AST
Platelet count
FIB-4 Index Panel w/ reflex to ELF Score
Guideline supported approach to evaluate patient at risk for NAFLD with liver fibrosis.
If FIB4 is > 1.30, the ELF score is performed extra charge.
CMP w/ Reflex to FIB-4 Index
Helps assess if patient is at higher risk for advanced liver fibrosis (F3-F4). Includes CMP
CMP w/ FIB-4 Index w/ Reflex to ELF Score
Guideline supported approach to evaluate patient at risk of NAFLD with liver fibrosis.
If FIB-4 is >1.30, ELF score is performed.
Liver Fibrosis, Hepatic Function Panel w/ FIB-4 Index
Assesses if patient is at higher risk for advanced liver fibrosis (F3-F4)
Hepatic function panel - assess liver injury, diagnosing liver diseases, and monitor treatment of liver diseases and effects of drugs.
Hepatic Function Panel w/ FIB4 Index w/ reflex to ELF Score.
Guideline supported approach to evaluate patient at risk of NAFLD w/ liver fibrosis. Will reflex to ELF if FIB4 is > 1.30.
Enhanced Liver Fibrosis (ELF) Score
Predicts progression to cirrhosis and liver-related events in patients with/ advanced fibrosis due to NASH.
Algorithm that combines measurement of PIIINP, TIMP-1, and HA.
PIIINP - marker of early fibrogenesis and inflammation.
TIMP-1: a circulating inhibitor of MMP enzymes that can enhance fibrogenesis.
HA - a glycosaminoglycan that is produced by hepatic stellate cells.
