NAB Role Flashcards
What was my role?
As an intern - assisting the Business Banking Team through reviewing credit papers, writing client briefs, conducting industry research.
Also engaged in a research project with fellow interns in which I led the group and helped group findings logically and presented them in a ‘story format’
Engaging with as many people as I can in the organisation to learn about how NAB and similar businesses function. Met a minimum of 2 new people a day via virtual meetings and gained an interest into technology implementation and improving customer experiences and increasing efficiency through discussions with Peter Hartley and the NAB Digital sales and Automation team
Challenges faced:
S: Lack of engagement from team early on with my manager away and my supervisor unwilling / unable to give me tasks as he was focused on his work
T: Find a way to be useful to the team and utilise my time effectively.
A: Reached out to other members of the team who weren’t my supervisors, had discussion to learn about their role and offered to help out with small tasks. Studied the industry, looking for trends that may be useful to my team.
R: Praised for taking initiative and was given tasks once I had shown the work I had produced
S: Unfamiliar industry (Agriculture)
T: Learn about the industry to aid my understanding of how banks support the agriculture industry in unique ways relative to other industries
A: Engage with team members as much as I could through going into he office, going out for coffees and lunches to learn as much as possible - almost to the point that I thought I was annoying them , but they enjoyed taking about it. Also researching the industry and then discussing my research with team members .
R: By the end of the internship I understood many Agricultural terms and concepts and was able to engage in thought-provoking discussions with team members
S: Stay at home orders
T: Create the most engaging experience as possible
A: Going in as much as I could, organising social events for the itnerns, creating a group networking document where we could work together to have meetings with NAB employees
R: Had a very enjoyable experience where I learnt a lot about my strengths, weaknesses and interests.
