N+ Virtualisation + Cloud Computing Flashcards
What is SDN?
SDN - Software Defined Networking
Allows Admin to configure virtual and physical devices throughout network
What is a VDI?
VDI - Virtual Desktop Interface
Desktop can be ran from a browser
Used on web or any type of PDA
Easier for admins to secure and upgrade
What are the benefits of Virtual Switches?
Overcomes issues of virtual servers being on one broadcast domain
Layer 2 control provdes VLANS and trunking
Provides QOS and security
How could you tell a virtual device from a standard device on a network diagram?
The virtual device will have a dashed line around it
What are Virtual Device?
Essentially a virtual version of a physical device such as a router or switch
Manufacturers offer them and provide same features as a physical version
What is an FC in a virtual network?
FC - Fibre Channel = Provides 1-16Gbps, can also be ran over ethernet (FCoE) or iSCSI (IP Small Computer System Interface)
What is a SAN?
SAN - Storage Area Network = Specialized LAN designed for data transfer or storage used within VLAN
What is a NAS?
NAS - Network Attached Storage = Essentially server that contains storage devices that can be accessed over the network
What is a Hyper Visor or VMM?
Hyper Visor (VMM - Virtual Machine Monitor) - software that enables virtualization to occur and emulates physical hardware. Type 1(servers) & Type 2(desktops).
What is a virtual server?
Allow multiple virtual instances to exist on a single physical server.
What are Virtual Network Devices?
Changes the way data centers are designed, fielded and operated.
What are the 4 models within Cloud computing? (NISP)
Network as a Service (essentially pay someone to run a service for you i.e bandwidth)
Infrastructure as a Service (essentially pay someone to run a service for you i.e website)
Software as a Service (access online utilities such office 365)
Platform as a Service (app development without the infrastructure)
3 Types of Cloud Computing?
Private Cloud
Public Cloud
Hybrid Cloud
