Myscle Functions Flashcards
Where would you find the smooth muscle cell?
Inside the walls of the intestinal walls (involuntary contraction)
Where would you find the cardiac muscle cell?
Inside the walls of the heart (involuntary contraction)
Where would you find the skeletal muscle cells?
Attached to the bones of the skeleton (voluntary contraction)
What is the role of calcium?
- muscle relaxed: tropomyosin blocks myosin binding sites along the actin molecule
- muscle contracted: calcium ions bind to troponin on actin tropomyosin to move away from the myosin binding sites
What is actin?
A family of globular multi functional proteins that firm micro filaments
What are three mechanisms to make atp?
1: the breakdown of creatine phosphate
2: aerobic cellular respiration
3: fermentation
What is Tropomyosin
The guard mechanism that prevents a skeletal muscle from contracting irregularity or on its own.
What is Phosphorus?
Plays an important role in how the body uses carbohydrates and fats
What is Calcium?
A mineral needed to build and maintain strong bones
What is Miosin?
A protein that converts chemical energy in the form of ATP to mechanical energy thus generating force and movement
