myology General Information Flashcards
Neuromuscular massage
Pressure
Just enough pressure to elicit the necessary response
neuromuscular therapy
A system of bodywork that affects muscle tone through sensory feedback in order to treat soft tissue pain and dysfunction
ischemia
local decrease in blood supply
hypertonicity
greater than normal muscle tone
myofascial trigger points
localized area of deep tenderness that may produce referred pain - often in a predictable area
taught band
group of taunt muscle fibers associated with a myofascial triggerpoint
postural distortion
result of imbalance in the musculosketal system in one of the 3 planes
Stiff neck muscle
Levator scapula
followed by Splenius cervicis
post neuromuscular therapy treatment info
- common to experience muscle soreness for a day or 2 after therapy
- drinking plenty of water may assist in alleviating soreness
- apply ice to areas treated to reduce post-treatment soreness
Frontal temporal headache
Upper trapezius
SCM most common source for referred pain for
Frontal headache
Orbital headache (migraine pain)
Vertex (top of the head)
Vertebrae
Widest transverse process
C1
SCM Cautions
Common carotid artery
Lies just deep to the medial surface of the muscle
Posterior shoulder pain
Posterior deltoid is the most common site for trigger point referring pain
Tennis elbow
Injury to lateral epicondyle
