Myeloproliferative disorders Flashcards
what are myeloproliferative disorders?
these are where there are clonal stem cell disorders characterized by proliferation of component myeloid, erythroid, or megakaryocyte lineage
They are named after the dominant cell line affected
erythrocytes are increased in polycythemia
platelets are increased in essential thrombocytosis
in myeloproliferative disorders are there crossovers in cell lines?
yes. Many times there is considerable overlap
some have disease defining genetic chromosomal translocation like CML.
others may have JAK2 V617 present with polycythemia, essential thrombocytosis and myelofibrosis and other myeloid disorders
what are myeloproliferative disorders at risk for developing?
all have varied risk for and conversion to AML or myelofibrosis.
what are some disorders of myeloproliferative disorders?
- polycythemia vera (high RBCs)
- essential thrombocytosis (high platelets)
- myelofibrosis (high megakaryocytes - stimulate fibroblasts)
- CML
