What is MDS?
A
An acquired neoplastic disorder of haematopoietic stem cells.

A
- 60+.

Aetiology of MDS.
A
Myeloid Bone Marrow cells do not mature properly so healthy blood cells are not produced.

Clinical Presentation of MDS.
A
- Anaemia - Fatigue, Pallor, SOB.
- Neutropenia - Frequent/Severe Infections.
- Thrombocytopenia - Purpura/Bleeding.

Investigations of MDS.
A
- Incidental Finding - FBC Abnormal.
- Blood Film : Blasts.
- Diagnosis : Bone Marrow Biopsy.

Management of MDS.
A
- Watchful Waiting.
- Supportive Treatment with Blood Transfusions.
- Chemotherapy.
- Stem Cell Transplantation.

Prognosis of MDS.
A
Increased risk of AML Transformation.
