what is a melody?
the melody of a piece of music is the main tune you can hear. Often, it is the part of the music you sing if the piece gets stuck in your head.
what is a contour?
contour is the direction that a line takes across your music.
what is range?
vertical distance between the highest and lowest notes in a melody.
what are the characteristics of a staccato segment
playing notes that are short and crisp with a small silence between each note, staccato is indicated by a dot above or below a note. The dot’s location depends on the direction of the note’s stem.
what are the characteristics of a legato segment
playing the notes as if they flow, smoothly connected into one another, legato is indicated by a line that connects above/below the notes.
what are the characteristics of a non-legato segment
a musical direction that indicates notes should be played with breaks between them, the most commonly used segment of music in pieces.
