Musculoskeletal System Flashcards
What movements take place in the frontal sagittal plane/axis?
Adduction and abduction
What movements take place in the transverse longitudinal plane/axis?
- Horizontal adduction and horizontal abduction
- Basically twisting/rotation
What movements take place in the sagittal transverse plane/axis?
All types of flexion and extension
What is the difference between an isotonic concentric and eccentric contraction?
Concentric - muscle shortens as it contracts (lifting)
Eccentric - muscle lengthens as it contracts (lowering)
Show all the agonists at the elbow during concentric contraction movements
Flexion - Bicep
Extension - Tricep
Show all the agonists at the knee during concentric contraction movements
Flexion - Hamstring
Extension - Quadricep
Show all the agonists at the hip during concentric contraction movements
Flexion - Hip flexor
Extension - Gluteals
Adduction - Hip adductor
Abduction - Gluteals
Horizontal abduction and adduction - gluteals
Show all the agonists at the shoulder during concentric contraction movements
Flexion - anterior deltoid
Extension - Latissimus dorsi
Abduction - Anterior deltoid
Adduction - posterior deltoid
Horizontal flexion - anterior deltoid
Horizontal extension - posterior deltoid
Show all the agonists at the ankle during concentric contraction movements
Dorsi flexion - tibialis anterior
Plantar flexion - gastrocnemius
