Musculoskeletal Anatomy: Leg Flashcards
What are the muscles of the anterior compartment of the leg?
Tibialis anterior, extensor hallucis longus, extensor digitorum longus (from left to right on my right leg)
What is the origin, insertion, and action of tibialis anterior?
O: Lateral tibial condyle and tibial shaft | I: Medial cuneiform | A: Dorsiflexion and inversion
What is the origin, insertion, and action of extensor hallucis longus?
O: Fibula and interosseous membrane | I: Distal phalanx of the big toe | A: Dorsiflexion and extension of the big toe
What is the origin, insertion, and action of the Extensor digitorum longus?
O: Lateral tibial condyle, head of the fibula and interosseous membrane | I: dorsum of the lateral 4 toes | A: dorsiflexion and toe extension.
What are the muscles of the lateral compartment of the leg?
Fibularis/Peroneus longus, brevis and tertius
What is the origin, insertion, and action of fibularis/peroneus longus?
O: Head of the fibula and proximal fibula | I: Medial cuneiform and plantar surface of metatarsal 1 | A: Plantarflexion and eversion
What is the origin, insertion, and action of fibularis/peroneus brevis?
O: fibula | I: metatarsal V| A: Plantarflexion and eversion
What are the muscles of the superficial posterior compartment of the leg?
Gastrocnemius and Soleus
What is the origin, insertion, and action of gastrocnemius?
O: Medial and lateral supracondylar ridges (for medial and lateral heads, respectively) | I: Calcaneous via the calcaneal tendon | A: Plantarflexion and knee flexion
What is the origin, insertion, and action of soleus?
O: Soleal line and head of fibula | I: Calcaneous via the calcaneal tendon | A: Plantarflexion
