Musculoskeletal Anatomy: Abdominal wall Flashcards
What are the muscles of the abdominal wall?
Rectus abdominis, external oblique, internal oblique, transversus abdominis.
What is the origin, insertion and action of rectus abdominis?
O: Pubic crest/superior pubic rami | I: costal cartilage of ribs V to VII and the xiphoid process. m| A: compression of the abdominal wall and flexion of the vertebral column.
What is the origin, insertion and action of the external oblique?
O: Ribs V to XII | I: Linea alba | A: Compression of the abdominal wall - bilateral lumbar flexion - unilateral ipsilateral lumbar flexion and unilateral contralateral rotation.
What is the origin, insertion and action of the internal oblique?
O: Thoracolumbar fascia and anterior hip | I: Linea alba and ribs X to XII | A: Bilateral lumbar flexion - Unilateral ipsilateral lateral flexion and rotation - compression of the abdonimal wall.
What is the oringin, insertion and action of the transversus abdominis?
O: Ribs VII to XII, thoracolumbar fascia and anterior hip bone | I: Linea alba and pubic tubercle | A: Compression of the abdonimal wall
