Q

Name the erector spinae muscles and their functions.

A

Iliocostalis, longissimus, spinalis. The provide bilateral extention of the spine and iliocostalis provides ipsilateral flexion of the spine.

Q

Name the transversospinal muscle, their location and their function.

A

Semispinalis (Capitis, cervicis and thoracis, cervical and thoraric regions), multifidus (thoracolumbar region) and Rotares longus and brevis (thoracic region). Provide contralateral rotation of the spine, while semispinalis capitis provides extention of the head.

Q

What are the muscles of the minor deep group and what are their functions

A

Interspinalis, intertransversari and levatores costarum. Interspinal provides extention of the spine. Intertransversari and levatores costarum provide ispisalateral lateral flexion of the spine. Levatores costarum provides elevation of the ribs.
