What are the 9 main hormones of the endocrine system?
Growth hormone, testosterone, estrogen, insulin, glucagon, cortisol, dopamine, adrenalin, noradrenaline. (1-Growth, 2-Sexe, 2-Glucose, 1-Stress, 3-Catecholamines)
What secretes growth hormone, and what are its functions?
|Anterior pituitary gland| Fs: Enhanced tissue protein synthesis (muscle, bones, organs), by enhancing uptake of a.a. and accelerating transcription and translation of mRNA.
What secretes dopamine and what are its functions?
|Brain| Fs: Regulates movement, emotion, memory, and reward pathways
What secretes testosterone and what are its functions?
|Testicles| Fs: Promotes anabolism, secondary male sex features, bone health, and red blood cell production.
What secretes estrogen and what is its function?
|Ovaries| Fs: Regulation of the menstrual cycle, contributes to increased body fat, promotes bone health, sex drive and erectile function.
What secretes glucagon and what are its functions?
|Pancreas (Alpha cells of the Islets Langerhans)| Fs: Regulation of glycemia by promoting the release of glucose in the blood via glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis.
What secretes Insulin and what is its function?
|Pancreas (Beta cells and the Islets of Langerhans)| Fs: Regulation of glycemia by promoting the removal of glucose from the blood via enhancing transport of glucose in to the cells.
What secretes cortisol and what are its functions?
|Adrenal cortex| Fs: Regulation of BP (via salt retention), regulation of CHO - Protein - Lipid metabolism, anti-inflammatory functions, circadian functions.
What secretes adrenaline and what is its function?
|Adrenal medulla| Fs: Promotes fight or flight response by increasing blood flow to the heart, lungs and muscles.
What secretes noradrenaline and what are its functions?
|Adrenal medulla| Fs: Involved in mood and concentration as well as in the stress response by increasing BP and HR.
