Bisphosphonates
A
- Bone reabsorption inhibitors
- Build density
- Suffix: -dronate
- Monitor Ca
- AE: esophagitis
- Increase calcium and vit D
- jaw necrosis is seen with long term bisphosphonate therapy

Raloxifene
A
- Tx post menopausal osteoporosis
- Risk blood clots
- SE: Hot flashes, leg cramps, dizziness

Calcitonin (salmon)
A
- Hormone
- Hypocalcemic agent
- Puts calcium back in bones not blood stream
- SE: Gi upset, can be given intranasal = irritation

Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (DMARDs)
A
- Immunosuppressants
- Treat RA
- Ex: Hydroxychloroquine or methotrexate
- AE: bone marrow suppression

Allopurinol
A
- Uric acid inhibitor
- Doesn’t help with acute gout attacks
- Stop if rash = hypersensitivity
- Fluids!
- No organ meats
- UA deposits can cause kidneys stones
- not with aspirin = increase UA levels

Colchicine
A
- Antigout
- Take NSAIDs for acute attacks
- Doesn’t help with pain just reduces UA levels over time
- Risk: bone marrow supression

Skeletal muscle relaxants
A
- Baclofen, carisoprodol, cyclobenzaprine, dantrolene
- SE: drowsiness, sedation, Dizziness
- Risk for hepatotoxicity
- Taper
- Tx: MS, Spinal cord injuries, musculoskeletal conditions
