Q

What imaging should be used for hip pain?

A
  • initially, radiology if there is supsicion of acute fracture, dislocation, or stress fracture
    • should include AP view of pelvis and frog-leg lateral view of symptomatic hip
  • MRI: to detect soft tissue abnormalities if radiology does not ID pathology in pt w/ persistent pain (MRI arthography 90% sensitive, 91% specific compared to traditional MRI 30%, 36%)
  • ultrasonography: evaluate individual tendons, confirm suspected bursitis, ID joint effusions
