Muscular System Flashcards
1
Q
What are the five types of contraction?
A
Isotonic, dynamic, concentetric, eccentric, isometric
2
Q
Isotonic
A
• Occurs when a muscle shortens against a fixed load while the tension on the muscle remains constant
3
Q
Dynamic
A
• Includes both concentric and eccentric
o Results in a change in length of a muscle with corresponding change in tension of a muscle
4
Q
Concentric
A
• Type of DC where the muscle fibres shorten and the tension of the muscle increases
5
Q
Eccentric
A
• Type of DC where muscle fibre lengthens and the tension on a muscle increases
6
Q
Isometric
A
• Occurs when both ends of the muscles are fixed and no change in length occurs during the contraction, but the tension increases
