Muscular System Flashcards
A group of muscles toward the inner thighs that bring the legs toward the center of the body.
Adductors
Flexes elbow and rotates forearm. Located in the scapula of the shoulder girdle (bicep).
Biceps Brachii
Responsible for movement in the hip and knee joints. Located at the posterior of the thigh.
Biceps Femoris
Located on the cheeks. Responsible for swallowing, sucking, and blowing.
Buccinators
Flexes elbow and abducts the arm and the humerus. Located in the scapular spine and the clavicle (shoulder).
Deltoid
Any of the muscles that straightens a limb out, such as your elbow, knee, wrist, or back.
Extensors
Located in between each rib, extending down to the 11th rib. Aid in expanding and contracting the chest cavity when the lungs are breathing.
External Intercostals
Located in the lower eight ribs (iliac crest). Flexes and rotates the vertebral column.
External Oblique
Located lateral to the fibula. Flexes plantar and everts the foot.
Fibularis Longus
A muscle that brings a limb closer to the body such as when you bring your hand up to your shoulder. Some are located in the bicep or hamstring.
Flexors
Located on the forehead. Raises the eyebrows and closes the eyes.
Frontalis
Located distal the femur (calf). Plantar flexes foot and flexes knee.
Gastrocnemius
Located distal the pelvis (buttocks). Extends hips.
Gluteus Maximus
Located superior the gluteus maximus. Abducts the thigh, steadies pelvis during walking.
Gluteus Medius
Lateral the spine. On the outermost part of the abdomen. Flexes and bends the trunk, aids in childbirth, urinating, and pooping.
