Muscular System Flashcards
Skeletal Muscle
the specialized tissue that is attached to bones and allows movement.
Smooth Muscle
located in various internal structures including the digestive tract, uterus, and blood vessels such as arteries
Cardiac Muscle
the muscle that is specific to the heart.
Excitability
the ability to respond to a stimulus
Elasticity
the ability to stretch to its full range of motion
Extensibility
the ability of a muscle to be stretched
Contractility
the ability of muscle cells to forcefully shorten
Fascicle
Nerve or muscle fibers
Epimysium
the sheath of elastic tissue around a muscle
Perimysium
the sheath of connective tissue surrounding a bundle of muscle fibers
Endomysium
thinner portion of the intramuscular connective tissue
Sarcolemma
the fine transparent tubular sheath which envelops the fibers of skeletal muscles.
Myofibril
fine contractile fibers, groups of which extend in parallel columns along the length of striated muscle fibers.
Sarcoplasm
smooth endoplasmic reticulum that abounds in the myocyte
Actin
involved with the motion, binds with myosin
