muscular sys vocab Flashcards
Study of movement
kinesiology
A basic rod-like organelle of a muscle cell
Myofibril
The contraction or functional unit of skeletal muscle
Sarcomere
Each muscle fiber is connected to a nerve cell fiber called a motor neuron
Neuromuscular junction
Some muscle fibers will be contracted while others remain relaxed
Tonus (tone)
Contraction in which there is no movement
Isometric contaction
Contraction With movement, resistance will vary depending on the force applied
Isokinetic contraction
Contraction which produces movemnt, resistance is variable
Isotonic contraction
A sustained contraction resulting from too many stimuli, will last until oxidation and removal of lactic acid occurs within the muscle
Tetany
Decreasing angle of a joint
Flexion
Increasing the angle of a joint
Extension
Movemnt away from the midline
Abduction
Movement toward the midline
Adduction
Cone like movemnt of an appendage
Circumduction
Movement around an axis
Rotation
Moving the plantar surface towards the midline
Inversion
Moving the plantar surface away from the midline
Eversion
Toward the dorsim (towards the face)
Dorsiflexion
Away from the dorism (point toes )
Plantarflexion
Extension passed the normal range of motion
hyperextension
Contraction in which muscles shortens
Concentric contraction
Contraction of the muscle when muscle is stretched
Eccentric contraction
Stretching or tearing of muscle fibers or the tendons which conect them (1st, 2nd,3rd degree)
Strain
2 protein stands wrapped around one another in which proteins project
Myosin
A double standard twisted into a helix. It has adp molecules on its surface and this is what forms the cross-bridges with myosin
Actin
