Eye Vocab Flashcards
The black middle layer of the eye which contains blood vessels
Choroid
A clear thin transparent membrane which lines the eyelid and the anterior surface of the eye except the cornea
Conjunctiva
The bending of light rays as they pass through one medium into another
Refraction
Specialized photoreceptors which are responsible for color vision
Cones
Organ which produces a substance made of water, mucous, salts, and lysosome
Lacrimal gland
A sphincter muscle which controls the amount of light entering the eye
Iris
The inter most layer of the posterior cavity of the eye. Made up of millions of photoreceptors
Retina
The ability of the ciliary muscles to change the shape of the lens, allowing clear focus at different docal lengths
Accomodation
A defect in the curvature of the cornea or sometimes the lens
Astigmatism
A clear fluid filling the anterior cavity of the eye which nourishes the cornea and other internal parts
Aqueous humor
A vision defect in which the eye is too long for correct function
Myopia
Structure of the eye which function in focusing the eye made up lens l, ciliary muscles l, and suspensory ligaments
Ciliary body
The outer covering of the posterior 5/6ths of the eye, composed of fibrous connective tissue
Sclera
A vision defect in which is too short for correct focus
Hyperopia
Photoreceptors which function in bak and white vision
Rods
Tough transparent covering over the anterior 1/6th of the eye which allows light to enter the eye
Cornea
A loss in the ability to focus on near objects due to the loss of elasticity in the lens
Presbyopia
The point on the retina in which the optic nerve exists the eye and there are no photoreceptors at this point
Optic disk
A clear jelly like fluid which fills the posterior cavity of the eye
Vitreous humor
A clear membrane like structure which is very elastic and refracts light upon the retina
Lens
