Progressive degeneration and weakness of specific muscle groups

What causes MD?
A
An abnormality in the genetic code for specific muscle proteins.

What is the most common form of MD?
A
Duchenne MD is most common 1/3500 male births between the ages of 2-3

What would you expect to see in children with MD?
A
Toe walk
Waddling gait
Lordosis.
Difficulty running, jumping, climbing stairs, and rising from the floor.
Fall frequently, often resulting in arm or leg fractures. Progression of weakness is steady; limb flexion contractures and scoliosis develop.
