Impaired voluntary movement or posture and resulting from prenatal developmental malformations or perinatal or postnatal CNS damage

What are some symptoms of CP?

A
Lagging motor development 
Hyperreflexia
Altered muscle tone - hypertonicmuscles,
Poor co ordination 
Joint contractures 
Misaligned joints
Scissors gait 
Toe walking are typical.

What causes CP?

A

Brain injury or abnormal brain development, during prenatal and neonatal brain development

What is the prognosis of CP?

A

Most children survive to adulthood. Severe limitations in sucking and swallowing, which may require feeding by gastrostomy tube, decrease life expectancy.

What are some complications of CP?

A
contractures, hip dislocation, and/or scoliosis
Epilepsy, hearing loss, vision, 
Mental retardation,
ADHD
