muscles tissues Flashcards
what is atherosclerosis
CHANGE IN THE LINING OF EPIITHELIUM thickening or hardening of the arteries caused by build up of plaque in the inner lining of the artery
build of fats, cholesterol and other substances
what causes it
build up of plaque
accumulation of imflamitory cells
plaque made from fats (lipids) cholesterol
what happens when there is plaque etc in the arteries
plaque can cause arteries to narrow which the blocks the blood flow going to vital organs
plaque can burst leading to blood clots
what are the risk factors of atherosclerosis
high cholesterol
high blood pressure
smoking
obesity incl diabetes
eating saturated fats
what are epithelium cells
lining tissue, covers the outer surface
what are endothelium cells
lining tissue, covers the inner surfaces
in arteries and veins
endothelium reduces friction and allows for smooth flow of blood
damaged endothelial cells can cause release of substances that can cause blood vessels to constrict
regulates blood flow and pressure
in capillaries
single layer of endothelium
easy gas exchange of nutrients and oxygen into the tissues and the removal of waste products
is myosin thick or thin
thick
is actin thick or thin
thin
what is a skeletal muscle cell wall made off
sarcolemma
what are bundles of muscle fibres surrounded by
persmysum
