On the craniolateral leg,
Give the origin, insertion, innervation and action of the Cranial Tibial muscle.
ORIGIN- extensor groove and the adjacent articular margin of the tibia; the lateral edge of the cranial tibial border
INSERTION - The plantar surface of the base of metatarsals I and II.
INNERVATION - Fibular nerve
ACTION - Flexes hock, rotates paw laterally
Caudal Thigh
Origin: Ischiatic tuberosity
Insertion: Patella, tibial crest, tuber calcanei
Primary Action: Extends hip, stifle, and hock; flexes stifle (caudal part)
Innervation: Sciatic nerve
Which muscle is this?
Muscle: Biceps Femoris
Muscle: Semitendinosus
Origin: Ischiatic tuberosity
Insertion: Tibial crest, tuber calcanei
Action: Extends hip and hock; flexes stifle
Innervation: Sciatic nerve
Origin: Ischiatic tuberosity
Insertion: Medial distal femur and medial tibial condyle
Action: Extends hip; extends or flexes stifle (depending on limb position)
Innervation: Sciatic nerve
Semimembranosus
Lateral Rump Muscles
Origin: Tuber coxae
Insertion: Lateral femoral fascia
Action: Flexes hip, extends stifle
Innervation: Cranial gluteal nerve
Muscle: Tensor Fascia Latae
Muscle: Superficial Gluteal
Origin: Lateral sacrum and first caudal vertebrae
Insertion: Third trochanter of femur
Action: Extends hip, abducts limb
Innervation: Caudal gluteal nerve
Muscle: Deep Gluteal
Origin: Body of ilium and ischiatic spine
Insertion: Greater trochanter (cranial aspect)
Action: Extends and abducts hip, medial rotation of limb
Innervation: Cranial gluteal nerve
Origin: Iliac crest and gluteal surface
Insertion: Greater trochanter of femur
Action: Extends and abducts hip, medial rotation of limb
Innervation: Cranial gluteal nerve
Cranial Thigh Muscles
Origin: Ilium and proximal femur
Insertion: Tibial tuberosity
Action: Extends stifle; rectus femoris also flexes hip
Innervation: Femoral nerve
Muscle: Quadriceps Femoris
