Muscles Of The Lower Limb Flashcards
Quadriceps Femoris (vastus medialis, vastus intermedius and vastus lateralis and rectus Femoris)
- ANTERIOR THIGH
- Vastus muscles extend the knee joint.
- rectus Femoris hip flexion and knee extension
-all femoral nerve innervation
Sartorius
-ANTERIOR THIGH
-flexor, abductor, lateral rotator at hip
-flexor at knee
(Enables you to cross legs)
-femoral nerve innervation
Pectineus
- ANTERIOR THIGH
- Adducts and hip flexion
-femoral nerve innervation
Adductor Magnus
-MEDIAL THIGH
-Hip adduction
(Adductor part also flexes thigh and hamstring part extends thigh)
(Hamstring part innervated by tibial nerve)
-obturator nerve innervation
Adductor Longus
- MEDIAL THIGH
- Adducts and Medially rotates the thigh
- obturator nerve innervation
Adductor Brevis
- MEDIAL THIGH
- hip Adductor
- obturator nerve innervation
Obturator externus
- MEDIAL THIGH
- laterally rotates the thigh
- obturator nerve innervation
Gracilis
–MEDIAL THIGH
- Hip Adductor and knee flexor
- obturator nerve innervation
Biceps Femoris
- POSTERIOR THIGH
- hip extension, knee Flexion and lateral rotation at hip and knee
- sciatic nerve innervation
Semitendonosus
- POSTERIOR THIGH
- knee Flexion, hip extension, medially rotation
-sciatic nerve innervation
Semimembranosus
- POSTERIOR THIGH
- Knee Flexion, hip extension, medial rotation at hip and knee
-sciatic nerve innervation
Gluteus Maximus
- SUPERFICIAL GLUTEAL REGION
- hip extension and lateral rotation when force required
- inferior gluteal nerve innervation
Gluteus Medius
- SUPERFICIAL GLUTEAL REGION
- abducts and medially rotates the lower limb. Also secures pelvis during locomotion
-superior gluteal nerve innervation
Gluteus Minimus
- SUPERFICIAL GLUTEAL REGION
- Abducts and medially rotates the lower limb aswell as securing the pelvis.
- superior gluteal nerve innervation
Piriformis
- DEEP GLUTEAL REGION
- laterally rotates and abducts the lower limb
-nerve to Piriformis innervation
