Muscles Of The Gluteal Region Flashcards
Origin and insertion of the gluteus maximus (superficial muscle)
-originates from the gluteal (posterior surface) of the ilium, sacrum and coccyx
-inserts onto the iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity of the femur
-innervation: inferior gluteal nerve
Origin and insertion of the Gluteus medias (superficial muscle)
-originates from the gluteal surface of the ilium
-inserts into the lateral surface of the greater trochanter
-innervation: superior gluteal nerve
Origin and insertion of the gluteus minimus (superficial muscle)
-originates from the ilium and converges to form a tendon
-inserts into the anterior side of the greater trochanter
-innervation: superior gluteal nerve
Origin and insertion of the tensor fascia Lata (superficial muscle)
-originates from the anterior iliac crest
-attaches to the anterior iliac spine
-inserts into the iliotibial tract and that attaches to the lateral condyle of the tibia
-innervation: superior gluteal nerve
Origin and Insertion of the piriformis (Deep muscle)
-originates from the anterior surface of the sacrum
-fibres travel inferior and laterally through the greater sciatic foramen
-inserts onto the greater trochanter of the femur
-innervation: nerve to piriformis
Origin and insertion of the obturator internus
-originates from the pubis and ischium at the obturator foramen
-travels through the lesser sciatic foramen
-attaches to the greater trochanter of the femur
-innervation: nerve to obturator internus
Origin and insertion of the gamelli (deep muscles)- superior and inferior
-(superior): originates from the ischia spine
-(inferior): from the ischial tuberosity
-both attach to the greater trochanter of the femur
-innervation: (superior) nerve to obturator internus
-(inferior) nerve to quadratus femoris
Origin and insertion of the quadratus femoris (deep muscle)
-originates from the lateral aspect of the ischial tuberosity
-attaches to the quadrate tuberosity on the intertrochanteric crest
-innervation: nerve to quadratus femoris
