Muscles of the Forearm - Anterior Compartment (deep) Flashcards
List the deep group of the muscles found in the front on the forearm
- Flexor Pollicis Longus
- Flexor Digitorum Profundus
- Pronator Quadratus
Origin of the flexor pollicis longus (2)
- Upper 2/3 of anterior surface of radius (below the anterior oblique line)
- The adjoining part of the interosseous membrane
Insertion of the flexor policis longus
it is unipennate
Palmar aspect of the base of the distal/ terminal phalanx of the thumb
Nerve supply of flexor pollicis longus
Anterior interosseous nerve (a branch of the median nerve)
Actions of flexor pollicis longus (2)
- Flexes all the joints of the thumb
- Helps flexion of the wrist joint
Origin of flexor digitorum profundus (4)
- Upper 3/4 of anterior and medial surfaces of ulna
- Medial side of the coronoid process of ulna
- Adjoining part of the interosseous membrane
- Upper 3/4 of the posterior border of ulna through the ulnar aponeurosis
Insertion of flexor digitorum profundus
Palmar surface of the base of the terminal phalanx of the medial 4 fingers, between the tendons of Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
Nerve supply of flexor digitorum profundus (2)
- Medial part - Ulnar nerve
- Lateral part - Anterior interosseous nerve (a branch of the median nerve)
Actions of flexor digitorum profundus (2)
- Flexion of all joints of medial 4 fingers
- Flexion of the wrist joint
Origin of pronator quadratus
Lower 1/4 of anterior surface of the ulna
Insertion of pronator quadratus
Into lower 1/4 of anterior surface of the radius
Nerve supply of pronator quadratus
Anterior Interosseous nerve (branch from median nerve)
Actions of pronator quadratus (2)
- Pronation (prime mover)
- Fixation of the distal ends of radius and ulna in pronation and supination
