Muscles of the Foot Flashcards
Action of the extensor hallucis brevis m.
dorsiflexes the proximal phalanx of the hallux at the MTPJ
Action of the extensor digitorum brevis m.
dorsiflex the phalanges of digits 2-4
Action of the quadratus plantae m.?
aids FDL in plantarflexion of the lesser digits
Action of the lumbricals?
plantarflex the proximal phalanges, extend the middle and distal phalanges of the lesser digits
This muscle adducts and assists in plantarflexion of the hallux.
Adductor hallucis (transverse and oblique head)
This muscle plantarflexes the proximal phalanx of the fifth digit.
Flexor digiti minimi
This muscle plantarflexes the proximal phalanges of the hallux (at the MTPJ).
Flexor hallucis brevis
How many plantar interossei muscles are there?
3
How many dorsal interossei muscles are there?
4
What is the action of the plantar interossei?
adduct the 3rd, 4th, and 5th digits (moving toward the midline)
What is the action of the dorsal interossei?
abduct the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th digits (away from the midline)
What are the attachments of the superior extensor retinaculum?
anterior aspect of the tibia and fibula
What are the attachments of the inferior extensor retinaculum?
It is Y-shaped. The stem is attached to lateral surface of the calcaneus. Other side is attached to medial malleolus and the plantar aponeurosis.
