tibialis anterior
O- lateral surface of tibia and interosseous membrane
I- medial cuneiform and base of first metatarsal
A- dorsiflexes and inverts foot
N- deep fibular nerve
extensor digitorum longus
O- anterior surface of fibular and interosseous membrane
I- middle and distal phalanges of 4 lesser toes (2-5)
A- extends toe and dorsiflexes foot
N- deep fibular nerve
fibularis tertius
O- distal anterior surface of fibula
I- base of 5th metatarsal
A- aids in eversion and dorsiflexion
N- deep fibular nerve
Extensor hallucis longus
O- mid portion of fibula, deep to tibialis anterior and extensor digitorum longus
I- base of distal phalanx of great toe
A- extends great toe and dorsiflexes foot
N- deep fibular nerve
extensor digitorum brevis
O- dorsal surface of calcaneus
I- base of proximal phalanx of great toe and proximal phalanx of toes 2, 3, 4
A- extends toes 1, 2, 3, 4
N- deep fibular nerve
fibularis longus
O- upper lateral 2/3 fibula
I- 1st metatarsal and medial cuneiform
A- everts and plantar flexes foot
N- superficial fibular nerve
Fibularis brevis
O- distal lateral fibula
I- base of 5th metatarsal
A- everts and planat flexes foot
N- superficial fibular nerve
Gastrocnemius
O- lateral and medial femoral condyles
I- calcaneus
A- plantar flexes foot and flexes leg
N- tibial nerve
soleus
O- posterior surface of head and proximal shaft of fibula, soleal line
I- calcaneus
A- plantar flexes foot
N- tibial nerve
Plantaris
O- posterior surface of lateral femoral condyle
I- calcaneus
A- weakly plantar flexes foot and flexes leg
N- tibial nerve
popliteus
O- lateral condyle of femur
I- proximal tibia above soleal line
A- flexes and medially rotates leg; laterally rotates femur to unlock knee joint when foot is flexed as leg flexion proceeds
N- tibial nerve
flexor digitorum longus
O- posterior surface, mid portion of tibia
I- base of distal phalanx of four small toes
A- flexes four small toes, plantar flexes foot
N- tibial nerve
