Muscles and movement Flashcards
skeletal muscle
muscles which are connected to and move our bones. this type of muscle is voluntary because we can control it.
what are tendons?
tendons are strong fibres which connect muscles to bones. tendons are non-elastic so that when a muscle contracts that it can transmit the force from muscle to bone which causes the bone to move
what are ligaments?
strong finres which connect bone to bone at a joint. ligaments are slightly elastic or some flexible than tendons so that the bones can move at the joint
what is a flexor?
a muscle which causes bending at a joint
what is an extensor?
a muscle which straightens the arm at a joint
what are antagonistic muscles?
muscles that work in opposite directions, when one contracts the other relaxes and versa
what needs to happen so that the arm can flex?
the bicep contracts and pulls on the radius.
what needs to happen for the arm to extend?
the tricep needs to pull on the ulna
