What is foramen lacerum?
The foramen lacerum is NOT A TRUE FORAMEN
arises due to a small bit remaining between petrous part of temporal bone and sphenoid.
In life it is filled with cartilage and nothing of significance passes through it.
Importantly, the internal carotid artery, as it exits the carotid canal, runs over the top of foramen lacerum to enter into the cavernous sinus.
