Muscles Flashcards
External abdominal oblique
covers ventral half of the lateral thoracic wall, lateral part of the abdominal wall; fibers run caudoventrally
Linea alba
“white line”; midventral raphe that consists of fused thoracolumbar fascia and the aponeurosis of the abdominal muscles; extends from the xiphoid process to the symphysis pevis
Superficial inguinal ring
external opening of the inguinal canal; formed by aponeurosis of external abdominal oblique separating and coming back together
Internal abdominal oblique
fibers run craniolaterally; at the rectus abdominus it is fused with the aponeurosis of the external abdominal oblique
Rectus sheath (external and internal)
formed by the fusion of the aponeurosis covering the abdominal muscles; external- internal abdominal oblique fused with aponeurosis of the external abdominal oblique; internal- formed by the aponeurosis of the transversus muscles
Transversus abdominis
medial to the internal abdominal oblique and rectus abdominus; fibers run transversely; aponeurosis forms the internal part of the rectus sheath except most caudal part, which forms part of the external sheath
Rectus abdominis
extends from the pecten of the pubis, as the prepubic tendon, to the sternum; flexes thoracolumbar part of the vertebral column
Inguinal ligament
caudal border of the aponeurosis of the external abdominal oblique; ventral portion is interposed between the superficial inguinal ring and the vascular lacuna
