Abdominal Cavity and Peritoneal Cavity 2 Flashcards
Greater omentum
first structure seen after reflecting the abdominal wall; caudoventral extension of the two layers of connecting peritoneum that pass from the dorsal body wall to the greater curvature of the stomach
Omental bursa (lesser peritoneal cavity)
space located within the greater omentum
Lesser omentum
loosely spans the distance from the lesser curvature of the stomach to the porta of the liver, between the liver and the cardia of the stomach, it attaches for a short distance to the diaphragm (hepatogastric); on the right free edge is the hepatoduodenal ligament which attaches the liver to the duodenum; contains the hepatic artery, portal vein, and the bile duct
Epiploic foramen
opening into the main peritoneal cavity; open lies caudomedial to the caudate lobe of the liver
boundaries: ventrally- portal vein, caudally- hepatic artery in the mesoduodenum, cranially- liver, dorsally- caudal vena cava
Mesoduodenum
originates at the dorsal abdominal wall and the root of the mesentery extends to the duodenum
right- passes to the descending duodenum/right lobe of the pancreas
cranially- continuous with greater omentum across ventral surface of the portal vein
caudally- from root of mesentary to caudal flexure of the duodenum
left- ascending duodenum, and at the duodenojejunal flexure is continuous with the mesentery of the jejunum
Dudenocolic fold
secondary attachment of the ascending duodenum to the mesocolon of the descending colon
Mesentery
encompasses the large and small intestine (duodenum, jejunum and ileum except outer border of the ileum)
Root of the mesentery
attaches the mesentery to the abdominal wall opposite the second lumbar vertebra
R&L Triangular ligaments
extend from the (R or L) crus of the diaphragm above the central tendinous part of the (R or L) lateral lobe of the liver
Coronary ligament
sheet of peritoneum that passes between the diaphragm and the liver around the caudal vena cava and hepatic veins; dorsally it is continuous with the triangular ligaments of each side, ventrally it converges to form the falciform ligament
Mesocolons
connect the ascending, transverse and descending colon to the dorsal body wall
