MUSCLES Flashcards
Striated muscle
the voluntary or skeletal muscles that move all bones, as well as controlling facial expression and eye movements
fascia
Fibrous tissue that envelops and separates muscles
Smooth muscle
the involuntary or visceral muscles that contract to move internal organs such as the digestive tract, the walls of blood vessels, and secretory ducts leading from glands
Cardiac muscle
striated in appearance but is like smooth muscle in its action
flexion
bending a limb.
extension
Increasing the angle between two bones; straightening out a limb.
abduction
Movement away from the midline of the body.
adduction
Movement toward the midline of the body.
rotation
Circular movement around an axis
Internal rotation is toward the center of the body and external rotation is away from the center of the body.
dorsiflexion
Decreasing the angle of the ankle joint so that the foot moves upward, toward the knee or ceiling
plantar flexion
Motion that moves the foot downward toward the ground
supination
the act of turning the palm up
it is outward roll of the foot/ankle during normal motion.
pronation
the act of turning the palm down
it is inward roll of the foot/ankle during normal motions
pronation
the act of turning the palm down
it is inward roll of the foot/ankle during normal motions
